About This Tour

Wales is one of Europe’s most underrated destinations — a compact nation that packs an extraordinary range of landscapes, history and culture into a relatively small area. This 6-day tour showcases the very best of Wales, from its sophisticated capital to its wild mountain heartlands and magnificent coastal castles. Wales has more castles per square mile than almost any country on Earth, and you’ll visit some of the most spectacular.

Your journey begins in Cardiff, where the fairytale Cardiff Castle sits improbably in the city centre. The Brecon Beacons offer moorland walks with sweeping panoramas, while Snowdonia National Park is home to Snowdon — Wales’s highest peak and the backdrop for legendary King Arthur stories. The North Wales coastline is crowned by the immense medieval walls of Conwy Castle (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and the perfectly preserved Beaumaris Castle on the Isle of Anglesey.

Throughout the tour your bilingual Welsh guide will share the stories, myths and traditions that make Wales’s Celtic heritage so distinctive. The Welsh language — one of Europe’s oldest living languages — adds a truly unique dimension to this remarkable journey.

Frequently Asked Questions

Not at all! English is widely spoken throughout Wales. However, your bilingual guide will introduce you to some key Welsh phrases, which locals always appreciate. Seeing Welsh on road signs and hearing it spoken is one of the unique charms of visiting Wales.

The Snowdon Mountain Railway is an optional extra that can be booked and paid separately. It operates seasonally (March-November) and is weather-dependent. There are also excellent walking routes to the summit for those who prefer to hike, which are included.

Late spring (May-June) and early autumn (September-October) offer the best combination of good weather, manageable crowds and stunning scenery. Summer is popular but can be busy. Welsh winters are mild but very wet — pack a good waterproof jacket year-round.

Cardiff Castle and the ground level areas of Conwy and Beaumaris are largely accessible. However, climbing castle towers involves steep, narrow stairs which may not be suitable for everyone. Please inform us of any mobility requirements when booking so we can advise accordingly.

The tour begins and ends in Cardiff. Cardiff Airport has direct flights from many European cities. Alternatively, Cardiff is well connected by rail from London Paddington (just under 2 hours), making it easy to combine with a London stay.
